The Wimbledon night was a big hit with over 20 people coming along for a great night out. It was a chilly night but it was great to see everyone out there having a hit and eating Jeff’s scones.
Congratulations to Maurice for winning Geoff’s Wimbledon trivia quiz.
Here are some photos of some members who must be in a witness protection program as we can’ t see their faces. Either that or they are dentists from a 1980s TV commercial.
The best thing about Wimbledon night was that Bernard Tomic turned up, unfortunately he only put in 30% effort, got bored and left after 30 minutes. On the bright side, that is 10 minutes longer than he lasted at SW19, so we’ll take that as a massive thumbs up from Bernard. Good luck in the US Open, champ, all of Highmoor will be supporting you!
Tennis Victoria love our work in attracting new members so much they’ve highlighted Highmoor Uniting in their latest newsletter.
Here is the bit about us: https://www.gamesetmatch.net.au/News/HighmoorUnitingembraceinnovativemembership.aspx
We letter boxed our flyers offerring discount family memberships in the surrounding area and would like to thank the following for walking the streets (this time with a purpose, usually some of us just wander the streets aimlessly):
Special thanks to: Geoff Lowther, Brett Collins, Melissa Gressle, Marsha and Boris Rudoy, Bernie McInerney, Adam Reid, Frank Fox, Joe Vovstrovsky, Rob Weir, Roger Hargreaves, and myself.
And here is the link to their newsletter. July TV newsletter
Tennis Victoria have released new guidelines for safeguarding children and the Committee will look at the training they are providing. See the guidelines in this link.

Junior Update from club coach, Damian Graf
Wrap up of last season
The MDJTA Feb-June season has now finished. Of our 5 Highmoor junior teams competing, 3 teams made it into the finals series. Boys 13 finished in 3rd spot and were beaten in the semi final. Girls 4 and Girls 9 finished in 2nd spot. Both teams lost their semi final matches and therefore needed a preliminary final victory to make the Grand final. Unfortunately, our Girls 4 team lost a close contest by 5 games. It was a good effort considering that our No.1 player, Katya, forfeited her singles match due to a knee injury. The Girls 9 team were also very unlucky to have their No.1 player, Ripley, injure her ankle on the day before the Preliminary final, and so she was unavailable to compete. The team tried really hard and lost by only 2 games.
Well done to all our junior teams on a terrific season.
We now have seven, yes seven, junior teams battling it out on Saturday mornings.
