Highmoor – 60th Anniversary Celebration

We are thrilled to announce a milestone moment in our club’s history-our 60th Anniversary Celebration! Since its founding, Highmoor Uniting Tennis Club has grown into a vibrant community, fostering generations of players, friendships, and some unforgettable (and forgettable) matches.

To honour our rich legacy and the members who have shaped it, we invite you to join us on Sunday October 19 for an afternoon of celebration, reminiscing and of course, a little tennis!  Stay tuned for more details on the festivities and special guests.

We are seeking support to help shape and organise the day.  If you are interested, please respond to this email. Any assistance is appreciated.

Mark your calendars for Sunday afternoon on October 19 and get ready to celebrate 60 incredible years of Highmoor!

Warm regards,

Kyle Malligan (Acting President)

Bernie McInerney (Non-Acting President)

CLUB UPDATE

We’ve applied for grants from Tennis Victoria and Kingston Council. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful with the Tennis Victoria grant. The word limit for their application was a maximum of 100 words and I only used 99. So I probably should have added an extra adjective.

Kyle Malligan and I also met with Kingston Council recently to update them on our club and the growth we’ve had. With a new sport and recreation liaison officer in Sam Kelsall, who has worked in netball and basketball, we look forward to working collaboratively with the council.

3 Junior Premiership Titles

From left – Markus, Nikola and Erik, Sam (absent due to illness), Jett (missing from photo)

Outstanding results saw the Junior teams win all 3 grand finals they competed in.

Congratulations to the players involved and coach, Damian Graf.

Boys Section 2 Saturday – Erik and Nik played big singles matches to win the tie. Jett filled in for Sam who was unwell.

Damian says, “Fantastic results from our Highmoor junior tennis teams for the Feb-June season. I’m pretty sure that we haven’t produced 3 premiership victories in one season before. A true reflection of the many long training sessions that some of our juniors have been doing. Recently, a few kids from our winning teams have been training/playing tennis for 6 or 7 days of the week. Hard work definitely pays off!”

Boys Section 3 Saturday – The Suluburic twins, Luka and Lazar won their singles to win the tie.

Social Ladies BBQ

Last week the mid-week Ladies held a BBQ and shared a cake to celebrate Jennie Armstrong’s birthday.

Thanks for all of your hard work Jen volunteering for the club.

Meeting with Councillor Hadi Saab

We met with Kingston City Councillor Hadi Saab and James Prideaux (Property Leader in Sports & Recreation). We discussed the key needs for our club including a replacement clubhouse, for courts 4  5 the need for new fences, court surfaces and lights, extra courts. Cr Saab was surprised we needed to hire courts at two other clubs for our senior teams.  Council will confirm the priority of our clubhouse for replacement in their review of their 75 sports pavilions. We had a wide-ranging discussion and found the council to be receptive to our ideas.

I’d like to thank Damian Graf and Tony Withers for managing their coaching sessions to cater for the Council visit.

Tennis Competition

Junior teams are playing finals and we wish them well. Boys 2 and Boys 3 on Saturday mornings and Sunday’s Section 2 and Section 5 have qualified for finas. Damian Graf will provide an update at the close of the season.

Senior teams are playing in the Winter Competition. We have 2 teams playing their home games at Royal Avenue and a Pennant team playing out of Le Page Tennis Club. Our Mixed team is playing their home games at Highmoor, so drop by and say hello. If you are interested in competition tennis, please contact Michael Lynch on 0487 391 781.

Tree Pruning

Thanks to Darrin, Geoff and Henry for their work last week in pruning the trees facing Le Page Street. We discussed with Council the approach to removing large scale green waste.

Volunteers required

We require a volunteer(s) to take on the annual Bunnings BBQ. This is a major fundraiser for the club and with the right weather conditions we can make over $2,000 in a day. Please contact me if you would like to be involved in such a fun day.
