Mens SOCIAL LUNCH

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Thanks to Darrin Hunt and the Tuesday Mens Social Tennis group for putting on a BBQ on Tuesday to celebrate Christmas.

It was nice to get a warm, sunny day for once and it was a good laugh listening to Frank’s jokes.

JUNIOR HOLIDAY CLINICS

JUNIOR HOLIDAY CLINICS

Damian Graf held the first of the summer junior tennis clinics on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately Thursday was rained out and he has rescheduled the Thursday morning session to next week on the Thursday the 29th.

The club supplied Zooper Doopers for the kids on Friday which were a big hit with the kids.

CLUB UPDATE

On Monday the 19th Dec, Dale Colllins, Kyle Mallligan and I met with our Council coordinator, Sam Kelsall,  to discuss future projects for the club e.g. fencing on courts 4 & 5, new toilet and shower facilities and Council cutting back the trees on the fence line. We’ll keep you updated on progress.

CLUB HOUSE DOORS – Unfortunately the pin codes are failing to open the club house door, so could you please leave the club house unlocked so members and guests have access to the toilets, kitchen and defibrillatior.

A contractor will attend in January to fix the door problem.

GIRLS SeCtioN 4 TEAM IN NEW HIGHMOOR SHIRTS

Abi, Abigail, Olivia and Lily were easily the best dressed team in all of junior tennis when they played in their new Highmoor shirts.  Well done, girls!

The success of the takeup in shirts in the junior teams has prompted the club to make it compulsory from the start of next year. A big thanks to Kylie Dickson for organising the shirts.

CLUB UPDATE

We’ve applied for grants from Tennis Victoria and Kingston Council. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful with the Tennis Victoria grant. The word limit for their application was a maximum of 100 words and I only used 99. So I probably should have added an extra adjective.

Kyle Malligan and I also met with Kingston Council recently to update them on our club and the growth we’ve had. With a new sport and recreation liaison officer in Sam Kelsall, who has worked in netball and basketball, we look forward to working collaboratively with the council.

DeFIBRILLATOR TRAINING Update

We had a tremendous roll up to our Defibrillator training session on May 14. Over 25 people came along. The presentation was first class and it was great to see how simple the defibrillator is to use and to learn how crucial the first few minutes are if someone has a heart attack.

Please continue to support our sponsors of the defibrillator, Terry White Chemmart Cheltenham, who were very generous towards our club.

LADIES MID WEEK TENNIS

LADIES MID WEEK TENNIS

When: MONDAY AND WEDNESDAYS 9:30 – Noon

One of the great parts of Highmoor is the social tennis. The Ladies Mid-week tennis is held Monday and Wednesday from 9:30am to Noon each week.

New participants are always welcome. It is a great way to stay fit and healthy.  So come along and join in.

The first person to spot Laurene (who organised our defibrillator training) in the photo will win a free night session of tennis.

JUNIOR RETIREMENT

Josh Glassock has retired from junior tennis (after getting too old) and has been a great contributor to his junior teams. We think he has played in 4 premierships but to be honest we lost count. Josh always got his team-mates enthused for the match and his talent on the court was equally matched by his own confidence and a devastating high-five when playing doubles. We hope to see Josh in our senior teams soon.

We have two junior teams in finals this season. So good luck to our teams.

Team shirts – we will have our first order of shirts back hopefully this week. We are placing a second order and will have the majority of our junior players in Highmoor shirts next season.

Any enquiries please email Kylie.

Highmoor shirts and Defibrillator Training

Highmoor Shirts

All shirt orders are to be sent to Kylie Morgan by Wednesday 11th May, via email at:

dickson.morgan@optusnet.com.au
Once we have the numbers we will confirm the price, expected to be $30.
The Highmoor shirts will be navy blue polos with the Highmoor logo on the upper left hand side.
Kylie has taken the shirt samples back to the the supplier, however, just think of the school shirt sizes for juniors. You can double check at the House of Uniform website.

Apologies if you tried to call Kylie, I wrote the number down incorrectly in the last email. Her number is 0430 714 257. She would prefer if you could email your order to her.

Defibrillator training

Defibrillator training is on Saturday 14th May at noon at Highmoor. Please make an effort to attend.

Laurene Rofe has arranged a external training provider to take us through this important training.

The new defibrillator is a different model to the previous one we had in the club.

Please continue to support our sponsors of the defibrillator, Terry White Chemmart Cheltenham, who were very generous towards our club.

Junior and Senior teams are back in competition and doing well.

A special thanks to Wayne and Martin for helping out on Saturday morning so we could get the junior matches on court. All five courts had large puddles and we had all three of the rollers out to the get the games on.

Defibrillator Training on Sat, 14th May

Defibrillator training – Saturday May 14th at 12pm
We have our new defibrillator, very generously supplied by Terry White Chemmart Cheltenham, and will be providing training. Every member is invited. Training will be on Saturday May 14th and noon.
Heart attacks happen and we want to be well prepared and there have been two very high profile fatal heart attacks recently with Shane Warne and Senator Kimberly Kitching both passing away at the age of 52.  So all members who can attend, please do so.
Our regular Saturday social tennis will commence after the training demonstration. So please stick around and have a hit of tennis.
Special thanks to Laurene Rofe for organising the training provider to attend.
Highmoor Club Shirts
In our quest to be the best-dressed club in Bayside, we are organising club shirts and encourage everyone in competing teams to consider getting a shirt. For the junior teams, we often play against other clubs wearing team apparel and it’s time for us to look sharp.
If you would like to order a Highmoor Tennis Club shirt please have a look at the sample sizes in the club house. Kylie Morgan has organised the sample shirts and they need to be returned next week. Shirts will cost $30 and will be navy blue polo shirts with the Highmoor club logo on the right hand side.
For juniors there are a range of sizes so please check. If you are dropping the kids to training or want to check on Saturday, you can select the right size.
Please call Kylie on 0430 714 527 to order a shirt. We expect the cost to be $30 each.
For a matching hat, please contact me on 0424 797 420, available at $25 each.

March Update – Club Championships

March Update – Club Championships

From left – Tom Pope (runner-up), Mr. Glenn Collins (Tournament Director) and Paul Luke (winner, again)

The final of the 2021 men’s Open Championships was held last Sunday with Paul Luke winning in straight sets over Tom Pope (playing his first Club Champ’s final). It was a high quality match and Paul had to play at a very high level to prevail.

Lauren Gellert is our 2021 Ladies’ champion after a walkover in the final. Congratulations to Lauren who will receive our brand new trophy for the Ladies.

Glenn Collins will send out notices for nominating for the 2022 Club Championships this week.

The endless summer has been great for tennis participation.  We have had a lot of people using the courts and participating in social tennis on Saturdays, Ladies tennis on Monday and Wednesday and the Tuesday men’s tennis.

February was our busiest month ever with the Tennis Australia promotion garnering a lot of bookings from non-members. It really helps a club like ours as we are tucked away and it is a terrific opportunity for people to see the quality of courts.

Welcome to our new members – Luke Harvey, Tina Bianchi, Paul Perry, Jeff Potter, Roch Dargan (our Junior number #1 draft pick) and Ulrika Lowe Zenou. We hope you enjoy playing tennis at Highmoor for many years to come.

Junior Tennis

Our 10 teams are all playing well and we are halfway through the season. Junior coaching participation is very busy with high numbers. Late last year, Damian ran a tennis program at Moorabbin Primary School for the kids in Prep. Moorabbin Primary also use our courts for their tennis program against other schools. We now have a sizeable cohort of Grade 1 kids in junior coaching and this will help maintain our high number of junior teams going forward.

This morning I saw the best smash ever in Juniors, when our superstar Marsha despatched a winning smash that bounced clear over the back net and sent her opponent, the dude with a blonde mullet, off scurrying to collect the ball. Well done, Marsha.

Team Shirts

Due to popular demand, Kylie Morgan has been investigating junior shirt options for our teams. We will go with a blue polo and will email junior parents this week to organise numbers. Our junior teams will look great in Highmoor shirts.

Senior Tennis

Summer season is completed and unfortunately none of our sides made the finals but the Mixed team was right in the race with results of the last match of the season coming into play to determine which team in the section got in.

For Winter this year we have entered 2 Men’s teams into TV Pennant and a Mixed team in to MRTA for Winter. Pennant starts last week of April and BRTA starts first week of May.
